Abstract:

Nothing quite exemplifies the concept of One Health better than the fact that many aspects of human, animal, and plant health and function are dependent on the presence of bacteria and their metabolic products: they are harbingers of disease, sources of disease treatment, and the origins of genetic determinants of resistance to these treatments. Bacterial pathogens have been present since early evolution, coexisting with all living organisms, and have probably been responsible for a number of species extinctions.
