Abstract:

A number of remarkable and seminal advances in basic immunology, molecular biology, cellular physiology, and molecular diagnosis have led to the development of new and unique assays. These techniques, in many instances, have been applied to both research and clinical laboratories. They afford unique sensitivity and specificity for a panoply of diagnostic laboratory procedures. This section of the focuses on the laboratory-based assays related to functional cellular assays and their application to clinical diagnoses (Fig. 1). The chapters in this section include major aspects of these assays.
