Cover image: Back-to-back dimerization of kinase domains. Overlap of PknB-KD in active form (1MRU_B-blue) and conformations of the PknB-KD L33D mutant that perturbs the dimer interface (3ORK-yellow, 3ORI_A-red, 3ORL-green). The C helix is shown in ribbon, while the rest of the structure is shown in wire. The C helix from the PknB is magnified to highlight differences in the position of Glu59. Figure made by using PyMOL (Schrödinger).

Microbiology Spectrum publishes commissioned review articles on topics in microbiology representing nine content areas: Food Microbiology; Bacterial Genetics, Cell Biology and Physiology; Clinical Microbiology; Environmental Microbiology and Ecology; Eukaryotes: Fungi and Parasitology; Genomics, Computational and Synthetic Microbiology; Immunology; Pathogenesis; and Virology. Reviews are interrelated, with each review linking to other related content. A large board of Microbiology Spectrum editors aids in the development of topics for potential reviews and in the identification of an editor, or editors, who shepherd each collection. Articles are written and peer-reviewed by leading researchers in each field. Although the reviews are commissioned and Microbiology Spectrum does not accept unsolicited articles, topical idea suggestions are welcomed.
