Jo Handelsman is pioneer in the field of functional metagenomics, an author of numerous book and journal publications, a former editor-in-chief of the journal , and the former Associate Director for Science at the White House during the Obama administration. This chapter, written by her former postdoc Patrick Schloss, covers Dr. Handelsman’s life and career and features personal stories and reflections from the author.
