Abstract:

What is your biggest failure professionally? Mine has to do with the concept of intrinsic safety. In 2004, I was asked by Ruth Berkelman to direct a program aimed at preparing individuals to work in high-containment (biosafety level 3 [BSL3] and BSL4) laboratories. At that time, there was a rapid expansion of high-containment laboratories, and there was a great need for a training program that would teach the skills needed to work safely in these laboratories.
